Matthew studied dentistry at the University of Leeds qualifying in 2000. Following his vocational training year, Matthew spent 3 years working as a senior house officer in Oral and Maxillofacial surgery at York District Hospital. It was during this time that Matthew sat and passed the postgraduate examinations to attain Membership in the Faculty of Dental Surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons of England (MFDS RCS).
Matthew has also been a tutor in oral surgery at Leeds and Manchester Universities for over 6 years.
For the last 15 years, Matthew has been involved in the placement and restoration of dental implants. In 2010, Matthew successfully obtained the Diploma in Implant Dentistry awarded by the Royal College of Surgeons of England (DipImpDent RCS). This qualification is widely considered the gold standard in dental implant training in the UK. He is experienced in simple/complex implant placements, immediate placements/loading, guided bone regeneration techniques, block bone grafting, open/closed sinus grafting, soft tissue surgery and is skilled in both the surgical and restorative aspects of dental implantology.
Matthew embraces lifelong learning and evidence-based dentistry. To this end, Matthew is an active member of the Association of Dental Implantology, the Internation Team of Implantogists (ITI). In addition, Matthew travels to the University of Bern, Switzerland, to keep abreast of the most predictable treatments.
A user of Straumann dental implants, Matthew’s work is restoratively driven, often involving the use of Cone Beam CT scans along with guided surgery planning and placement where appropriate.
Matthew attained the Postgraduate Diploma in Conscious Sedation at Newcastle University. Conscious sedation is an excellent technique used to reduce dental anxiety and is particularly useful for dental implant procedures.
