Sinus Lift and Grafting
When the upper premolar and molar teeth are lost, the maxillary sinus can enlarge leading to insufficient bone height to place dental implants.
A sinus lift and grafting procedure is a very predictable way to allow dental implants to be safely placed to replace these missing teeth. The procedure involves gently elevating the thin lining inside the maxillary sinus. A bone grafting material is then placed under the lining.
A variety of bone grafting materials can be used all with very good results. Between 4-6 months is required for the new bone to form.
On most occasions, it is possible to place the dental implant/s at the same thus reducing the treatment time and the number of surgical interventions.
This procedure is relatively quick to perform and is carried out under local anaesthetic. Sedation is available should you feel particularly anxious.
